Environmental Initiatives
We believe strongly in the need to establish sound environmental practices at Wantirna South. Schools are the heart of our communities and by engaging students in environmental issues we are empowering students to want to improve their school environment and community. A litter-free, healthy, eco-friendly school is a real asset to a community – both in the physical environment of a local area and in giving young people knowledge, skills and positive attitudes towards the environment and a healthy lifestyle.
Wantirna South has a garden program which runs during lunch time for Year 3-6. We have a fabulous garden space with 5 garden beds. Recently we were the recipient of a Landcare grant which will enable us to improve areas of the garden as well as planting and caring for a range of fruits and vegetables. These fruits and vegetables will be used in our cooking which then gets sold at the canteen. This process enables students to see how important a healthy diet is.
