What is The Buzz Cafe?
At Wantirna South Primary School there is a strong connection between our history, present and future. The ‘Buzz’ Cafe provides students the opportunity to engage the “Paddock to Plate” Experience, whereby produce is harvested from the vegetable garden and used to cook detectable dishes to eat.
The highlight of the cooking experience was planning, preparing and serving a 3 course dinner for residents of Wantirna Village. we made a 3 course Italian lunch for the guests. The guests completed the afternoon enjoying a musical performance from many students including our school band and choir.
All Levels in the school experience cooking in the ‘Buzz’. This experience allows integration of the curriculum areas of literacy, math along with health in ‘real-life’ learning. Students engage in cooking items within class to consume themselves, to create superb dishes for invited for invited guests from Wantirna Village or cook a small treat for our families after assembly.
What do we make in The Buzz Cafe?
Students have prepared cookies, muffins, damper, cupcakes, vegetables soup and sausage rolls.
Look what we made using apples and eggs from our chickens. The apples scrolls were delicious!
The Buzz Cafe will be open at various times throughout the year on a Friday afternoon after School Assembly allowing families to experience the treats that are made by students in ‘The Buzz’.
