We are committed to developing student voice and agency, enabling our students to be active contributors in the learning and decision making throughout our school. As detailed in the Department of Education’s ‘Amplify’ document:
‘By empowering students, we enhance student engagement and enrich their participation in the classroom, school and community. We help students to ‘own’ their learning and development, and create a positive climate for learning.’ (Department of Education and Training, 2018)
Student Voice and Agency is not simply about giving students the opportunity to communicate ideas and opinions; it is about students having the power to influence change. It provides opportunities for students to collaborate and make decisions with adults around what and how they learn.
Our students are encouraged to participate in student-led conferences, identify their learning goals, provide feedback to their teachers and pursue their passions. In previous years, students have been supported to implement initiatives that they were passionate about, such as ‘Nude Food’ days, organising and running ‘Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea’ and helping local community members in need via the organisation of food donations.
